I often wish I had something since I don't go to the ER.
I would have an iv cocktail. DHE, a pain med, Zofran and Benedryl.
Narcotics are not indicated for the treatment of migraines is what I have been told by an ER doctor(and I wasn't even asking. My husband had asked the doctor what they would do if the treatment they were giving me didn't work).
I was given morphine and demerol quite a few years ago in the ER while they were running tests because the pain was so excruciating they thought I might have meningitis. They didn't touch the pain. I have to take a narcotic pain medication for my back and can tell you it doesn't touch my migraines at all.
Toradol with Phenergan injections can sometimes take the edge off but for 90%of my migraines it's a waiting game - waiting for it to be over. Ice packs, nausea medication, benadryl and a muscle relaxer can usually keep me away from the ER. If that doesn't work I usually have to have an IV infusion with steroids or Depakon with Phenergan and benadryl. The fluids from the IV help since by then it's usually been a couple of days with next to no fluid intake
Hope that helps
I get pain meds from my pain dr but it is for my neck. If u say migraines they will tell u that is not protocol for your head. Makes no sense cause when I get the migraines my neck is in extreme Paine. Depends on the severity. Sometimes takes edge off and sometimes doesn't touch the pain and just makes u feel lousy. Catch 22.
The only thing my doctor and I found to ever work on my migraines was Percocet.
I was taking fiorecet for years.. we went to a new Dr and she won't give me any meds til I have testing and that's not for another month. Any suggestions on what to use?
I know the pain will be there
