Sumatriptan And Excedrin Migraine Are Not Working As Well Anymore, What Do You Use?
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Last weekend I ended up with a 4 day long migraine. Sure it was from getting overheated. But nothing worked to take it away. I have a prescription for Sumatriptan and use Excedrin Migraine also. days 3 and 4 were the worst. Went to the neuro dr on the 5th day and he gave me a shot of Toradol and a shot of a steroid, then put me on Prednisone taper pack. The toradol worked great. Didn't have a headache for 5 days, then woke up with one again on the 6th day. I get the Botox injections, but… read more

I've had success with Relpax. I alternate it with an Imitrex shot so I'm not always using the same remedy when I get a migraine. I also had success with Maxalt for quite awhile before it didn't seem to work as well. I wish I didn't get them at all, but I'm glad I have a doctor now who is willing to let me try different remedies and switch them around to keep effectiveness.

Are you taking the Aspirin Free Excedrin? If not that could be causing some of those rebound headaches.
I started the Botox shots the beginning of this year, the 1st set didn't do a lot for me the 2nd set did. Like you said they keep the really bad bad ones at bay, the little ones do still sneak in. I had a lapse in my shots and had to start over in Sept. so I am going through the rough 1st set of shots again and this is hell.. They be coming strong and often, it is not fun at all. I have missed so much work, I work full time but with these being so bad lately its like I have a part-time job instead.

I found that Relpax works well for me. However, since getting the Botox injections three years ago, I experience daily headaches. These are controlled by Excedrin, but with the weather changing here in Ohio, my headaches tends to last longer. I just take the Relpax in an emergency. I have found that the injections are keeping the terrible headaches at bay. I'm sure I'm experiencing rebound headaches from the Excedrin but it's better than the 2-3 day migraines.

I am sorry and understand how difficult and painful these constant cycles are. I have found that an occasional higher dose with or w/o taper, to be effective in breaking the migraine cycle. The small dose 4mg taper pack never works for me. But be very careful not to do it often as there are other health risks associated with using it to often.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat. Nothing AT ALL IS WORKING. I'm going to lose it all soon.
