Do Women Have Migraines More Than Men? Does Anyone Take To When They Get Migraines
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever take notice to when they first got migraines? I got pregnant that's when it all started for me. I notice that a week before my period I get a migraine and vertigo.. of course I asked the six different neurologist and my gym.. they all said no way r they related.

Don't let your doctors tell you that there is no connection between your periods and migraine! There absolutely is! I honestly believe that there are many doctors (mostly men) who think that women with migraines are just being hysterical. I was part of a study several years ago that was looking at the effects of a medication on women who are pre-menstrual. I got my first migraine when I was eleven, it started with my first period. When my mother took me to the doctor because of them he said I was to young to have headaches and said I was a hypochondriac, about 7 years ago I saw a neurologist and he said postmenopausal woman didn't get migraines. I finally found a doctor who does a combination of western and eastern medicine who has been helping me deal. Keep looking for the right doctor she/he is out there.

I was 6 when mine started, it runs in the family. I have uncontrollable migraines that are not controllable with medication along with occipital neuralgia (ON). I have been on a multitude of different ones, from anti convulsants to depressions medications to blood pressure medications and then botox. All of which have failed. For a short time dementia medication worked. It somewhat does still to this day. However I am on neurotin 1800mgs a day and muscle relaxers and epidural injection steroids (EIS). I don't have as many migraines, but my ON is untreatable.
I think maybe women have them more than men due to hormonal fluctuations. Although I think most men won't admit having migraines (at least all the ones in my life).
Truth be told, I don't think there is a true way of knowing which sex is prone more to migraines. Unless there is a study done on people with the same or similar DNA makeup, live in the same region, have absolutely no allergies or sensitivities to any medication or substances that could induce a migraine or headache, I don't see how a study could come to such conclusions.

What do you think, are they related or not. You could read some articles and come to your own conclusion
