I am 72 years of age and have suffered with migraine from the age of 14. Recently though I am having them daily and my sinuses are stuffy....ordinary painkillers do not work and the doctor took me off sumatriptan because of my age. Any ideas please?
Try a sinus rinse, there is the NetiPot, or the one I use is a soft bottle made by NeilMed. You MUST use distilled water to mix with the powder in the box, squeeze gently and it will flush the sinuses. At times you can see nastiness coming out at other times I've found just the warm water is soothing. Have you seen an Ear, Nose, Throat doctor? They might be able to help, I've had sinus pressure and stuffiness for years allergies contributed but it was getting worse, a visit to the ENT and a few tests lead to sinus surgery. It wasn't as bad as it sounds, expanding the cavity (I think with a balloon) and removing a few polyps I didn't even have black eyes from it.
There are a lot more women than men with migraine. It's to do with hormones. Maybe men don't worry as much!
I'm 62, I had a neurologist tell me that post menopausal women didn't get migraines! He wrote an Rx for gabapentin and told me I didn't need a follow up visit. I'm also hoping the new drug will be an option for me as nothing else has worked.
I wonder if more men than women got migraines would there be more progress in the treatments available? Sometimes I feel like there has been very little forward movement in addressing women's' issues. Oh well, at least we don't have to deal with corsets.
I'm sixty nine and the doctor better not take me off zomig. What do you take instead? I think doctors believe you shouldn't still be having migraines. Maybe the new drug they're bringing out will be the answer.
I've heard that Johnston &Johnston menthol baby wash is good as a shower gel that can help relieve migraine and a stuffy nose haven't tried it myself yet though but planning to .
