I am supposed to start Botox treatments in May. All the conventional treatments have not been successful.
I am interested in experiences others have had.
Botox lessened the severity of my migraine but they are still an almost daily occurrence. I don’t think mine will be covered anymore as I’ve started taking aimovig and insurances only like to cover one or the other. Botox did help me a decent amount though. Good luck!
Thanks. Every day is about where I am. Hoping it gets covered by insurance and will be a go. Can't see the neurologist who does the Botox until May. The one I have been seeing does not.
I just had my third and probably final Botox treatment 2 weeks ago. Results have been mixed - slightly less headache days but still have dealt with some pretty intense ones. I'd take those are down to 4-5 a month vs. 15 or more I was experiencing. I'd say Botox works but I wanted to see less headache days.
My first two rounds felt like it helped, but by the third round I noticed my head was hurt from lack of movement. Inspite of that I finished the year. But when you compared the last month to the months prior to the shots, the number of migraines was barely lower. Considering how many thousands of dollars it cost me, I felt it was a waste of money for the results I got.
I just got my 32nd round. Expect to be out of it for a day after your 1st several rounds of shots. My body did finally get used to them. They are painful so I squeeze the pressure points in my thumb webbing area to get through the pain. It can take a few rounds to get the full benefit from them. For me I went from a migraine every other day to 3 to 4 a month. Your body can burn through the medicine quickly and I notice more headaches during the last 2 weeks before another round. I am one of my neurologists longest running patients...last year I missed my appointment and had to wait 2 weeks before they could work me in. I totally felt the difference in not having them! It was a good reminder for me as I was wondering if they were still working and Goodness yes they were!
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
