Ibuprofen And Hives-other OTC Options?
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi-I went to an allergist today after my primary care physician refered me after a weekend of migraines, hives and digestive issues. She thought it might all be related to a food allergy. I found out I had a few food allergies but the main issues seems to be that ibuprofen could be giving me hives. I take ibuprofen often and I have very sensitive skin. I wonder if other people have issues with it and have other OTC painkillers for migraines.

I used to break out in hives with ibuprofen but i dont anymore. It now upsets my stomach so i only take when its a really bad migraine. I have laid off a lot of medicine and become very sensitive so now i can take 1 tylenol pm and if its a bad migraine 1 alleve or advil with my abortive. I am on rizatriptin as my abortive and trokendi xr as my preventive which is a extended release topomax and i am not thrilled with it. I feel like my head is a ticking clock. I just started magnesium and b12 and coq10 (which has worked for me in the past) and fingers crossed i get botox approved soon. Fortunately no migraines lateley, but i feel so slow and tired. I think i am starting to smell bad? I would try tylenol and maybe magnesium oil spray.

Whole foods and staying away from processed and chemicals seems to be the key. I know I have allergies, primarily to cloves, so it makes sense to me that eating plain food would be good. It does entail more cooking time, though! I have started drinking water with a couple of drops of peppermint oil in it for flavor, in a large container that I keep with me all day. I find that satisfying.

My husband is leaning in that direction, but won't give up sodas. He has a lot of arthritis and has had cancer and chemo, which left behind a variety of issues.

I can tell I am feeling better and have more energy in just a week, and an imperfect week, at that. I've lost about 5 pounds. I'm doing my best, but there is a learning process. One website says sour cream is fine, the next one says no sour cream. I'm just going to have to make my own choices and go from there, I think. So far, I am liking it and doing well. Hope you get back to your better you, soon!

I hope that aorks for you. It works well for me when i stick to it. My boyfriend likes to join in as well. I just got back from Ga, tending to a mom who is recovering, so everyone was bringing over dishes. Loaded with salt. I am on topomax so already thirsty enough to begin with now wake up gulping water in the middle of the night. Real southern family so also the best pound cakes homemade. Anyways, im so swollen and achy. I am going back to whole foods this week. And cant wait to get the 13 lbs off that i gained and my achy joints to feeling better. Hope it works for you! And if your husband has any ailments it will help him. Mine actually started it and i joined on and felt so much better. Changed my life but i do whole foods 85 % of the time and 15% have fun, i am not familiar with keto. No more poppyseed chicken for me. 😞 nor party size peanut m&ms

I just started a new round of steroids, so I am free from the itching for a little while. I'm really trying to stick with the keto diet, and looking at every label. I think I'm driving my husband a little bit crazy, but if it means the end of migraines, I'm sure he'll be happy. He can eat whatever he wants, I'm on a "get-well" eating plan.

I hope that it’s helpful for you. Hives can be so frustrating.
