Botox
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

What are people's experiences with botox? I am considering it since preventative pills are not working on my chronic migraines.

I have been using botox for nearly two years. The first time i had it i found it not so helpful. But my Doctor said to try a second dose in 12 weeks. It cut down my almost daily migraines by about half. While there are definate benefits, it is quite painful the first couple of times you have it done. If you can battle through a migraine then you can deal with botox. My doctor also puts some in my neck and shoulders to help with migraines that originate from those two hot spots. I think it is about 20+ needle sticks per application but it really only takes about 20 minutes to do. It has been the only thing that has given me some relief. The other thing i love about it is that i lost my insurance earlier this year and the company has a patient assistance to pay for it. So now i am getting the medication for free. It is between 3000 and 4000 each round. It is well worth it. I hope it works for you! Remember if it doesn't work the first time give it a second try.

I’ve been getting Botox for close to 5 years. Do I still get Migraines? Yes, but not nearly as bad or as often and I haven’t needed to be hospitalized for hydration in 4 years. All good. Side effects? None that I’m aware of. I do know that I it makes a difference which kind of MD one sees. A Neurologist is not necessarily a headache specialist. A person with Migraines needs a specialist! Ok, off my soapbox now!

I have been on botox for a while now a d my symptoms are getting to the point I am going blind to up to 8 hours and my neurologist will not do nothing about it .
Botox I get is 150 shots all over my head like example 7 in forehead, behind my ears , neck all over my head .
Anyone with less shot u must be blessed cause when I get my shots they fricken hurt alot .
It's pointless for me to keep going back every month I have severe chronic migraines that botox is not working for my head.
Last month I had 28 migraines in a row .
Worst part with all those migraine half of them I was completely blind I had no eye sight at all .

I agree. I went to a neurologist and now that I have a headache specialist I would never go back. Thanks for your input @ Bwi7855
