I Live In The UK And Have Been Diagnosed With Chronic Migraine Sydrome And My Work Are Making Every Effort To Fire Me
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I live in the UK and have finally been diagnosed with Chronic Migraine Syndrome. This is based on the fact i spend everyday at a 7 maybe an 8. From here it gets worse and I will end up in hospital atleast twice a month at a minimum.

Now I have been told that my condition is one not recognised by the government as a "real condition" and certainly not something that can effect someone to not be able to function.

I have taken every single type of medication that they have available and had B… read more

Hello! Sorry to hear that, it sounds awful. Whoever told you told that migraine isn't considered to be a real condition is COMPLETELY WRONG!! Chronic migraine comes under the Equality Act 2010 - check out https://www.migrainetrust.org/wp-content/upload...

I dont have a union because of my line of work, and i spoke with the migraine trust however they advised that they can only act as an advisory as the company i work for only legally have to follow instruction based on DWP legislation. :(

I spoke with the benefits agency about pip my entitlement was £27 based on the fact my wife works as well they seem to think that with us both working that we earn enough but that isn't the case regardless they would only offer me £27 a fortnight. Regarding CMS as a disability my doctor pointed out to me that it is not a recognised disability in the UK in the states it is recognised as one though... however the WHO do recognise it as one..

It is a catch 22 situation, I already spoke with ACAS they attended my last disciplinary meeting regarding my sickness levels they were able to knock that on its head however the stipulation my work have put in place is that if have an episode at work due to a result of my condition (seizure, Blackout, vomiting etc..) then they retain the right to re-evaluate my position in the company.

this whole thing has become far more than i have the strength to deal with anymore, i have started developing other things as a result of this and it has led to me doing something very silly i know an i dont want to do it again but i just got so stressed out and this whole thing has broken me and is slowly breaking my home

Im running out of willpower :'(

How come chronic migraine syndrome is not seen as a disability?
Your work place obviously knows that you have a problem with migraines as they have adapted your work base, they will say that they have made reasonable allowances so they have shown that they understand that you have a chronic condition. I forgot what I was going to say, Oh yes PIP seriously phone them on Tuesday they will send you out the paperwork, photocopy the form and make a rough draft before filling in the document for real. When you have finished the form photocopy it because they will ask you questions about it later at the face to face interview. Just remember when you fill in the document you are basing this on the worst day that you have. They will send you an interview date take some one with you, if you cannot drive or such like get them to come to your home they will ask you the reason why. They will do a physical assessment and then ask you questions be very truthful in regards to your worse day. You many not get anything in the first attempt but you can ask for an appeal and normally they are a little better at awarding the correct payment. The payments are back paid from the day that you apply. You can apply for PIP while you are working. Also they will not say that CMS doesn't exist they will be looking for the impact that it has on your life.

I thought of someone else that might be able to help you with your work based problem ACAS, that's who they said to call when I was in trouble, it might help I cant remember it they can help you put forward a case but they are helpful
