They put me on topamax 25mg eventually up to 3 times a day to help with my migraines. Has anyone else tried this? Any weird side effects?
I would encourage you to watch closely for side effects and report any to your dr. This was my 2nd trial on the drug and the first trial it seemed I was in slow motion. Always late, took longer to figure things out etc.
I do notice some word recall trouble once in awhile but I've been on 100 mg since 2011 and overall the side effects have been minimal. I still get frequent migraines but I've tried all the other preventatives and this one seems better than the others.
At 200 mg I quit eating, talking etc. Just sat in the dark in my room. My father described to me what the med was doing and I called the neuro to get instructions to get off of it.
I was on a low dose of topamax for 7yrs as a preventive. My neurologist at the time let me adjust the dosage myself as long as I wasn't getting migraines. I adjusted down from 75 mg to 50 mg bc I felt like I lost IQ points or something. I play word games on line and found I had trouble creating words and lost speed.
Then in Feb, 2016, I had my first kidney stone. Not pleasant. Needed surgery to break it up and remove it. Urologist said the topamax was to blame.
My new neurologist (we moved) took me off topamax this past Feb. I had a smaller stone make its appearance in Mar. but was told that with good fluid intake and lemon (citric acid) juice I should be able to limit or eliminate the stones. We'll see.
I took Topamax. Confusion and thing moving in slow motion. No effect on migraines. My dr upped the dose to max and I quit talking, eating and did not go to work. Layer in bed all day staring at the wall or sleeping. I finally asked her to titration me off. It was not the med for me. Hope it continues to be of benefit to you.
