I get migraines about 1x a week and can function for part of them but my son (16) gets them several times a week or ones that last for days. Yes MY daughter does
Hi,
I am 19 years old and have the worst migraines in my whole family, up to the point where I also missed more than 70% of school. I had migraines every week which lasted for up to 4 days. Last October I switched to a new medicine, lamotrigine. This is usually used for epileptic people, but for me, this did wonder. now I have a migraine once a month and it is less intense. so maybe you could try that for your son! I hope something will work.
My daughter has begun having them much younger than I did. I have learned that the meds like imitrex work to stop my migraine for awhile but then I get an even worse rebound migraine. If you haven't already, you might read up on rebound migraines. It won't solve your son's problems but maybe it can slow things down a bit. The intensity of my rebound migraines is sooo much worse than a regular migraine.
No, my son can sleep with one & wake up a few hours later. Plus he does not have to take ANY preventatives or meds for them.
