Daith Piercing

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ocala, FL

I had the daith piercing done a year and a half ago while visiting a friend in Texas. I suffer from severe allergies and while there in TX I had a massive migraine and had to go to the hospital it was so bad. So my friend convinced me to try the piercing within 15 minutes of the piercing being done my headache was gone and I have not had one since. I have had some pressure in my sinus and aches in my neck upwards toward my head but they haven't become a migraine so to say. The daith piercing… read more

Members shared mixed experiences with daith piercings for migraines, with some reporting life-changing relief that lasted months or even longer, while others found the procedure painful, uncomfortable for side sleepers, and ultimately ineffective. Several members described practical considerations, including costs ranging from $30 to $50, healing challenges such as infections or discharge, and the fact that results varied widely from person to person, with some needing both ears pierced and others removing the jewelry due to continued migraines. A recurring theme was that while some found genuine relief, others suspected a placebo effect, and the community emphasized that everyone's body responds differently to both piercings and medications.

It's different for everyone, i wouldn't call it a placebo effectat all. I actually went in to get it done thinking it wouldn't help at all and I'd remove them after a few months, but now I can't imagine not having them. The pressure and weather changes this time of year usually kill me and I haven't had a hospitalizing migraine since I got my piercings (knock on wood, I usually end up there every snow storm). So, I think just like everyone responds to medication differently, people also respond to the piercing differently. I don't think a placebo effect, but I'm sorry your experience was negative.

I actually just had my husband remove my daith yesterday!! It was more of a hassle than it was worth. I still got migraines and ended up at the ER getting IV meds. It was painful and did not like to stay uninflected. I cleaned it and took care of it well but it would always push out green or yellow goo weekly and I’d had it over a year. I think it’s more placebo affect than anything. Anything will work if you believe it hard enough!!! I just think it’s a waste of time!!
