Members expressed deep frustration with finding effective migraine treatments, sharing decades-long struggles with chronic pain, failed medication trials, and the devastating impact on daily life and ability to work or enjoy time with loved ones. The conversation centered heavily on insurance barriers, with many members facing denial of coverage for newer CGRP medications like Aimovig, Emgality, and Ubrelvy, exorbitant copays, and the catch-22 of needing to keep working to maintain insurance coverage while being too sick to function, with several sharing manufacturer assistance programs and discount cards as workarounds. Members offered a wide range of treatments that have provided varying degrees of relief, including Botox injections, CBD oil, hyperbaric chamber therapy, magnesium supplements, binasal occlusion glasses, specific medications like sumatriptan and zolmitriptan, and even microdosing psilocybin, while emphasizing the critical importance of finding a neurologist who specializes in migraines and being a persistent self-advocate in navigating the healthcare system.

It makes no sense at all to me, when you consider the sheer prevalence of this disease, that insurers are charging ungodly fees for the meds we need to be able to participate in life !!! We need a very strong lobby, like the NRA, to work for our cause. But the only people who really understand the struggle, are other migraineurs. People who have never had a migraine, think we are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Yes. Not One works. I’ve tried over 70 different treatments. They’re ALL scams. I stopped trying. I’ve broken bones just so something else hurts. The new drugs are just expensive jokes. There’s Zero point.

most of my frustration is from insurance affecting the treatment i can get. the rest of my frustration is from people & their lack of understanding.

Search Manufacturer, and they can help you with getting your meds. The doctor knows this too, it's paperwork that they don't want to be bothered with. You can get most of filled out yourself (or ask someone at company to help)so all the doctor has to do is sign as prescriber.
