I have been taking birth control continually (no break for a period) for over a year now. It has helped with my migraines which are linked to my menstrual cycle. However, my neurologist tells me that studies show that people who have migraine with aura should not take birth control pills as there is a higher risk for stroke. I am going to stop taking the pill, but I am worried about my migraines coming back like they used to. Any alternatives?
I had the same problem! I was taking estrogen, and my obgyn told me with my aura symptoms I can't take estrogen due to the fact I could have a stroke. She said the best possible alternatives for me, was the IUD, the nexplanon (the arm implant) or another pill without the estrogen. She recommended the arm implant though, she said that the pill without estrogen isn't that great.
I use nuvaring continuously to stop my cycle due to migraines, but I don't have aura.
