Suggestions/advice On Different BC Solutions For Sufferers Of Migraine With Hormone Sensitivity?
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Ever since I got the copper IUD (paraguard) I've noticed my acne has became significantly worse, takes longer to heal, and creates worse/more scarring. I had not taken any birth control for 3-4 years before I got the IUD. My skin used to be normal, even through pregnancy and after. My doctor thinks taking something hormonal will worsen my migraines. But I'm wondering now if it would just be worth it in the end anyway, and maybe just treat the worsening migraines if my body doesn't get used to it… read more

I’ve been prescribed progesterone only pill cerazzette, you take it continuously so it suppresses ovulation and menstruation. I used to get migraine every month like clockwork, however I’m feeling great on this pill and am hoping it will be life changing, no migraines at all since being on it

I take a double dose daily of Micronor, continuously so I no longer have periods or the hormonal dips... It has not stopped all migraines but they are less frequent and I dont get the dreadful monthly 3 day ones anymore

@A MyMigraineTeam Member Tell me about it! I went through so many Birth control pills and had migraines every day of the month with my worst ones being just before and just after my period. I got a suggestion from my step mom that I could be hormone sensitive and told my doctor that that's what we thought and she totally dismissed it, it wasn't until it came time to change my birth control that I suggested the depro shot and she agreed. Since then I've had half the amount of migraines than what I used to get and they're no where near as bad (before when they hit all i could do was lay in a dark room and sleep.) My doctor ended up asking me about it about six months later and was surprised when I told her that they had gone down by half. But then my doctor has a hard time accepting what I'm telling her is happening, she's not very helpful when it comes to a lot of things.

I tried every BC pill my obgyn could throw at me for a while, but all of them made my migraines much worse. I didn't want to try the IUD so just used non-invasive methods which was a hassle and definitely less effective so nerve wracking for the years I didn't want to get pregnant. After I had three children and my migraines got much worse I decided that there was no way i could go through another pregnancy, even if I wanted to, so decided to get my tubes tied. No more issues. It's really tough if you are hormone sensitive, and it's really hard to convince doctors that you are hormone sensitive - for some reason many of them just don't believe you! "But it's just a tiny dose!" (Seriously - been there, tried that, just doesn't work for me. Those tiny little pills will make me really ill) Not sure what else to suggest to you unfortunately.

I'd try it. For me it doesn't make any difference in my migraines. I currently have the liletta iud. I do know some people who get worse migraines though. Everyone is different
