I’m Looking For Opinions On Daith Piercings From People Who Haven’t Been Helped By Medications
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know there have been mixed opinions about daith piercings but I figure if it helps even a little, it would be worth it. Considering nothing else, not even Botox, has helped, I’d be ok with it if the piercing doesn't help. But I’ve read accounts of migraines getting worse or moving after a daith piercings. I’m looking for someone like me, who doesn’t get results from medication who can tell me what kind of results they got after their piercing... good or bad. I want to be informed before I… read more

I did mine on the right...my sister did hers on the left (whichever side your migraine starts on). Have had the piercing for a year and a half and not a migraine since

I have them in both ears. But they do not kill my migraines, only help with the pain level. (Please keep in mind that I had a stroke, and my brain did not fully recover from it)
Meds I am able to take only work for a short time, currently the only help I have is my piercings & essential oils.

I've had migraines since I was 12. My first one was very scary, I got my 2nd one when I was 16, and they were pretty constant after I turned 18. I had them 20 days out of 30 each month. I tried numerous medications that had no impact on them and made me sick to my stomach. Then I had a hysterectomy almost 5 years ago, and my migraines turned worse. I only had them about every 3-4 months, but they put me in the hospital every time. They had to give me a cocktail of Benadryl, Toradol, and Promethazine. It works, but I was still down for about 2 days. After about 3 years of this, a friend was telling me that she was getting her daith pierced for her migraines. I asked her if it worked after she had it, and she said it did. Amazingly. So I did the research into it as well. Took me a year before I decided to take the plunge. It started out with a headache (not a migraine) that was in about 7 days. I called my daughter up (who also gets severe migraines) and told her we were getting our ears pierced. She got one daith pierced, but I chose to have both my rooks pierced. Reasoning was, when I applied pressure there versus on the daith, it relieved the headache better. I got this done on February 4, 2017. I haven't had a migraine since. Headaches, yes, but not severe and manageable with Excedrin, and have had a couple of times where I had the aura at the beginning of a migraine with no resulting headache. It was amazing. I strongly believe in the piercings and urge you to try it, but don't do both at the same time. It was awful because I'm a side sleeper!

I was on propanolol, fioricet, ibuprofen, naproxen, anything over the counter I could get my hands on. The fioricet worked for a while but never really got rid of it.....just took the edge off enough that I could function. I had relief within 10 minutes of getting my piercing. If I feel one coming on....I mess with my piercing and it quits

How did you chose to do the piercing? Acupuncturist would seem like the right person to mark the spot.
