I just received my Headway "magazine", Issue #173 -- "My Migraine Voice" article is a summary of a huge survey of 31 countries, 11,266 migraine sufferers. It blew me away that the results didn't show more suffering!! And I directly quote....."64% reported a negative impact on their social life; A 13% loss of work time, a 48% loss in productivity. And having to miss work but only getting paid sick days for around half of the days missed. Perhaps the paradox here is that 70% felt that their work⦠read more
Y'all watch Migraine World Summit last week? I thought it was so interesting when that doctor said that they are finding the neck might be the root of some migraine pain. That c1 directs pain to the eye, c2 to the upper part of the head and c3 to the lower and back part. Since I have problems in every one, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that my migraines move around so much, although most of the migraine pain is in my eye. I also loved the possibility that we might not have tension type headaches, but just a milder migraine at the other end of the migraine spectrum. That would explain why I have super sensitivity to smells so clearly. I mean, come on... I can smell people's clothing from 30ft away! That's ridiculous!
Right! I'm not saying those other migraines aren't bad, but they certainly don't impact them every single day! There are still fears of "will I get hit hy a migraine while I'm on vacation or at this conference" but not to the same degree. Yeah, they definitely should have divided the group into two categories. Maybe even three because there are so many who have other brain issues too like tumors and head injuries. That's a whole new ball of wax! Bless them too!
I sure don't agree! I know I work almost every day (when I'm working) with a migraine because of the lights, the stress of the job, the smells, the screaming kids! I've gone to the neurologist office to get a shot for a migraine & they had a Scentsy pot going.. it was terrible, i checked in & said I'm going out in the hall to wait she said you can't.. well I can't sit in here unless you'd like me to puke on your floor! Guess where they let me go π. I have FMLA for my migraines because we have a terrible point system at work, and we build up time off by the hours we work, I use my PTO as I get it so no paid vacation time for me! And social life... we can plan but with the right to cancel because we never know how I'm going to feel! So to book a vacation (I'd love to go on a cruise.. a group of our friends are going next summer) we can't.. I don't want to be somewhere and be stuck in a room with a migraine for hours or a day or two! π¦
Some people just can't relate.
Seek out a good neurologist that specializes in migraines. Try to find if there are any underlying reasons, any possible meds for prevention and rescue meds. Then you may qualify for intermittent FMLA for those days where you are unable to function
