Has Anyone Had Their Jaw Reset To Realign It To Alleviate TMJ? Did It Help With Migraines?

Serious TMJ pain and jaw clinching with grinding as well. I'm wondering if anyone has had their jaw broken/reset to help or alleviate any of these issues?

Not broken and reset, but I had severe flattening of my jaw bone from grinding. It was so flattened I couldn't even open my mouth big enough to be eat a simple sandwich with regular bread. I could barely open wide enough for a bite of toast. They put me in a retainer that had spikes sticking out to prevent my tongue from pushing forward, and it balanced out all of the caps and dental work to give me a level be surface do if I tried to grind my teeth, it just slips easily. It did the job! My bone grew back in just a few months, pain was gone.

I went to a specialist that used electric shocks through needles stuck in my jaw muscles to recreate the original alignment of my jaw. (Dental work realigns our jaw into unnatural positions.) Then he made a special mouth guard with small spikes to prevent grinding, and each side was slightly different in thickness, which allowed my jaw to regrow the joint bone. The first night I wore it was the first morning in decades that I didn't have a headache. My jaw DID grow back and I slowly was able to open my mouth again. (I couldn't even eat a sandwich before.) My migraines weren't as bad and the tension in my temple went away completely. Only problem was I lost it after three years. Then the dentist refused to take me back because he was no longer seeing new patients!! Really sad day for me. My migraines are now three a week, with daily tension-type headaches. My TMJ is back but not as bad as before. So yes, it can be healed completely with a trained specialist. As to chiropractor alignment, yes, I get my jaw aligned occasionally and it helps a lot too.

There's a specialist in Indiana who connected me to an electric machine that sent jolts of electricity into my jaw to make my muscles jump in spasms. He said when we get fillings and caps it changes the position of our relaxed muscles. Other words, we lose our natural muscle position so our muscles get tense. By shocking the muscle he can get the proper muscle position, where the relax position used to be. Then he makes the splint for the correct proper position like we used to be before any dental work. My splint for example was thicker on the right side than on the left. It was amazing how different I felt when I wore his splint. My morning headache was gone from the very first day! It was very expensive though! $2,500.00 back in the 90s! Unfortunately he doesn't take new patients anymore and I lost my splint back in 2005. Since I had not been a patient for over a decade, he considers me a new patient. I would do anything to get another one of his splints!

I have suffered from TMJ for over 30 yrs. seems like every treatment makes the migraines worse and are more severe. My family doc wants me off all headache meds as well as my estrogen, she’s nuts!

It is!! I can't stand myself anymore! The headaches and jaw pain are constant and with ther opiod crisis they won't cover my pain. I'm allergic to codeine but still everything else I guess is under restrictions as well because no one will help me! Go big or go home i guess. 😏
