Do you notice your teeth hurting during a migraine?
Yes, tooth pain during migraines is something others experience too. Head pain from migraines can spread into your face and jaw, which may cause your teeth to hurt. Some people also experience pain in their upper teeth specifically.
There's also a connection between jaw clenching or teeth grinding (bruxism) and migraines. Many people grind their teeth or clench their jaw without realizing it, especially during sleep, and this can trigger or worsen migraine attacks.
Common signs that jaw issues might be related to your migraines include:
* Headache pain that occurs after jaw activity like chewing or speaking
* Clenching your teeth before, during, or after a headache starts
* Jaw pain or restricted jaw movement
* Finding that standard headache treatments don't fully relieve symptoms
A MyMigraineTeam member shared: "Due to gritting my teeth, my jaw has been hurting. I wonder if it is contributing to my migraine."
If you suspect your tooth pain is related to jaw clenching or grinding, talk to your doctor or dentist. They can evaluate whether a mouthguard or other treatments might help reduce both the jaw issues and migraine frequency.

Upper molars pain is a fairly recent addition to my migraine symptoms. After trials with different migraine prescription medications, I now take an Emgality injection every 30 days which has significantly reduced frequency and intensity of my migraines. Ubrelvy worked for breakthrough migraines but took an hour or more to begin taking effect. For me Nurtec is just as effective as Ubrelvy and works significantly faster.
