A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been in PT for almost 3 months for my right arm/ neck/ shoulder pain that happens after bad migraines. It had just gone away after 2.5 months of PT this week i was supposed to graduate after taking a week off to see if i could keep up with exercises on my own and then i had a migraine 2 nights in a row and pain is back. As well as the exhaustion that goes with pain. Does anyone else get the nerve pain with migraines. Its fairly new for me and very frustrating! Had MRIs and nothing! Also… read more

Yes, I also do PT exercises for my whole body. I'm supposed to do my neck too, but whenever I do I get a migraine or at least a blinding headache. I'm supposed to get a cervical epidural injection in August and I pray it will allow me to do my neck PT without the side effects of headaches. I'm losing a lot of mobility in my old age. I've had whiplash 6 or 7 times so I realllllly need to get back to my neck stretching!

It is true that if you keep doing your PT exercises that you learned that you will continue to improve. I've been doing PT exercises on and off since I was 16. But five years ago after I was forced out of my job, I gave up and just sat on the couch for 8 months. My migraines were severe daily all day long so I just gave up. I locked up so bad I couldn't walk even with my cane. I fell into a bad depression. I really wanted a dog, but hubby said i couldn't have one because I couldn't walk him. Well, that motivated me to go back to PT! It took 5 months but they got me walking again and I am still doing all the exercises they gave me. Then when I broke my back in 2018, I flared up the bone spurs in my shoulders from pushing myself up into the sitting position. Went back to PT again and she added and adjusted my exercises even more. Now in addition to 1 1/2 hrs of PT every day, I'm doing light weights every other day, and switching up easy yoga, tia chi and recumbent bike. Mixing it up keeps me from getting bored. So keep up your PT. I didn't realize how much my scoliosis has been slowed down by my exercises until after I broke my back and was bedridden for a couple of months. My curvatures advanced more in three months than they had in 10 years. PT really works even if it doesn't seem like it's doing anything. It is!

Yes,I have neck pain sometimes w shoulder pain. It doesn’t help if I sit for long periods of time. I have back problems also. I miss not going to Aquasize Class. That makes a huge difference. I try to walk or lay on the floor w my Butt and legs flat up the wall. My arms out at my sides. I lay there for a few minutes. It helps me realign my body. I read about it online. It sounds Weird but it works.

Oh, sorry. I'm bone on bone at C1/2, & C4/5 so lots of nerves getting pinched with pain down both arms too. Plus, I had nerve ablation done back in 2006(?). Anyway it just made everything worse for me. I would never recommend it. However, my sister in law was very successful with her ablation, but she has a fractured facet joint so totally different situation. She doesn't have migraine.
