Can You Use A Tens Unit For Migraine?
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently got a TENs unit for my back pain due to herniated disc and slipped vertebrae. It works wonders! Now I know there are company’s who make tiny tens units just for migraine like Cefaly. I don’t really want to dish out the $389 for one though. Can’t I just use my tens unit? And where would I place the pads if I did?

250 for the Cefaly device not the TENS unit, which back in the 90's I don't even think that I paid for because it was a work injury.

By the way Mrs Nelson, I know that some people don't like it, when I got mine I loved it, even if I only got relief for 20 minutes, but I talked to my therapist about it and she got one, she had migraines every so often-not chronic, and she didn't like it.
So it also may be possible to find one online for even cheaper by someone who didn't like it and is trying to sell theirs. Just a thought.

Not a good idea I tried just to intense even at the lowest level. I used my cefaly ever night helps a little but I put all the little things I do to lower my pain and it adds up. Good Luck

Yes, Susan is right. Only shoulders down, and only muscles. I would love to put it on my neck or right on my spine, but the instructions say no.

I have a tens unit for my back that is so old we had to pay 800 for as the insurance company said it was a experimental procedure at the time. Lol. But I have not used it in years. At that time they said you couldn't use it for the neck up. I quit using it after I had a bad episode with my back, while I was visiting my parents. It must have
been 2012,
I have seen a few devices that are made for Migraines but I have not looked into it. A good question for my next Doctor visit.

No you can't use your TENS unit. I asked multiple doctors the same question.
But I got a discount with a prescription for it from my neurologist.
I paid still about $250
