Are you experiencing daily pounding headaches that won't go away?

Daily, severe headaches that don't respond to treatment can be incredibly challenging. If your headaches are lasting more than 72 hours and aren't improving with your usual treatments, this could be what's known as an intractable migraine (or status migrainosus).

Key characteristics include:

- Severe headaches lasting more than 3 days
- Resistance to typical treatments
- Intense throbbing or pulsing, often on one side of the head
- May include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound

A MyMigraineTeam member described their experience: "The headaches were daily at a pain level of seven or eight... I was constantly taking nausea medicine."

Important next steps:

Given the severity and duration you're describing, it's essential to seek medical care soon. Your healthcare provider can determine if this is intractable migraine or another type of headache disorder, and help find more effective treatment options.

They may run imaging tests like MRI or CT scans to rule out other causes and develop a better management plan for you.
