Members rallied around someone struggling with an 8-day migraine that wouldn't break, sharing their own experiences with rebound headaches from overusing acute medications, the limitations of common treatments like Toradol and Nurtec, and the sometimes-necessary trip to the ER for a migraine cocktail when nothing else works. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them manage chronic migraines, including daily magnesium and CoQ10 supplements, IV hydration therapy, identifying food triggers like tyramines, using a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, keeping a migraine diary, and working closely with primary care doctors when neurology wait times stretch for months. A recurring theme was the mental and physical exhaustion of living with relentless pain, the challenge of navigating complex medical advice while advocating for oneself, and the power of community support and prayer during the hardest days.

Hi Naomi! Finally able to read your full bio. All those losses! I can only imagine how difficult that must be. I am so sorry! I hope the Lord continues to send healing and comfort your way!
I really respect how important your work is as a middle school teacher. My experience when I was a middle school nurse was that the teachers were very caring for faculty and staff as well as students and parents. You teach so much more than just subject matter. You lead the future adults of your community by example . 2 of my sisters were teachers as well, and I’ve heard the long hours and the many ways you advocate for students and families.
As far as the migraines for 8 days go, it is my understanding that Toradol is short-term pain relief, and that the steroids act as an anti-inflammatory med, potentially decreasing inflammation more and more until the end of the course. So I wanted to encourage you that if you have more steroids to take you may feel better as the days go on. I apologize if this is stuff you are already aware of. If it were me, I would call the neurology office if my pain were not improved by the end if it’s course to see if another treatment would be advisable ( e.g. preventive meds if they are not yet prescribed, or a different med to stop the current headache. As well, one may want to consider requesting a non-narcotic pain med if its side effects make taking it impractical.
Best wishes to you! I hope you feel better soon! Keep us posted! We are rooting for you!

I totally understand your thought process your going through. Trying to figure out the pain. Where is it coming from? What did I do to trigger the migraine and questioning yourself all day and night and trying to basically survive. 8 days straight is very long and hard on you with no or minimal relief just waiting and knowing its gonna get worse through out the day. I was trying for you to help break the cycle because it has been going on for so long. I think your doing the right steps (me personally). One thing I found myself is magnesium helps. I take it orally and I know the ER doctor gave iv magnesium too. Way to be proactive and reaching out to your primary doctor to get something to chill out. Migraines are mentally and physically exhausting plus stressful. I hope and pray you get some relief soon.
