When the migraine pain level is so high it begins to cause trouble with focus how is it you keep on keeping on?

My pain management specialist is aware of this activity. I'm just trying to manage self-care at this point. I appreciate everyone's support.

Members responded with warmth and practical advice to the question of how to cope when migraine pain becomes so severe it affects focus, with the general consensus being that pushing through is not realistic and self-care must come first. Several members shared personal strategies including retreating to a dark, quiet room with ice packs, taking medications like Ubrelvy or Emgality, drinking hot ginger tea for nausea, tracking symptoms in a journal, and giving themselves grace. A recurring theme was the importance of listening to your body, leaning on your care team, and remembering that you cannot care for others when your own well is empty.

When the pain is unbearable, I need sleep and a dark room. I track my pain level and migraines in a spreadsheet.

SueElf Just keep babying yourself until you feel better. If it's not going away, I would call pain management team for help.

Take your med asap. You can take a second Ubrelvy in two hours. It always helps me. Caffeine helps too.

Keeping going isn't a real option. Dark room, medication, no noise, sleep and hope it goes away quickly.

@A MyMigraineTeam Member I'm actually having more than expected relief since beginning Emgality on March 31 2026. The weather barometer still is causing problems which is nothing new but thankfully I'm doing well now that I have started on the Emgality journey.
