There are four FDA-approved gepants:
- Ubrogepant (Ubrelvy) — A tablet taken during an attack to relieve moderate to severe migraine pain
- Rimegepant (Nurtec ODT) — A dissolving tablet that can be used both to treat an attack and to prevent future ones (taken every other day for prevention)
- Atogepant (Qulipta) — A once-daily pill used specifically for prevention of episodic and chronic migraine
- Zavegepant (Zavzpret) — A nasal spray for acute attacks that may start working within 15 minutes Most gepants are well tolerated, but common side effects can include:
- Nausea
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Constipation
Zavegepant may also cause nasal discomfort or changes in taste.
