What works if imitrex doesn’t? I haven’t tired imitrex spray. Is it more effective than pills?

Imitrex works if I take it soon enough. The last 2 times I had a migraine it didn’t work. I threw up took a second imitrex but it didn’t work.
Would the imitrex spray work better? In case I throw up aftet taking an imitrex pill.

Eye Stroke caused by migraine, Permanent

Eye Stroke caused by migraine, Permanent

Has anyone had this happen to them??
I woke up with migraine. Got up and took migraine meds. 10 minutes later while laying down with eyes shut I saw 3 bright full blue moons that grew in rapid sec section, one after another.
I looked at alarm clock and I could only read the top half of numbers. Got up, turned light on and bottom of vision in one eye was gone! Looked like jagged sheets of ice.
Went to ER IMMEDIATELY. In the time it took to get there the blockage moved to… read more

Does anyone taking Sumatriptan (nasal spray) or other method, find that initially the migraine returns on the opposite side of the head?

I began with the Sumatriptan injections years ago. Then switched to the pills. The effect was full body and left my limbs feeling achy and heavy. I prefer the nasal mist delivery method. However I have found that the migraine will often leave one side of the head, only to appear on the other within a hour or so. I find if the migraine is on the 'lesser painful' side, that I… read more

Does your child suffer worse migraines than you?

Does your child suffer worse migraines than you?

I get migraines about 1x a week and can function for part of them but my son (16) gets them several times a week or ones that last for days. He missed more than 70% + of school days and social activities. I just don't know what to do at this point. We have recently changed neurologist from a pediatric one to an regular and he said he was on very low peds doses of meds and switched him to adult doses as he is the size of an adult. This doesn't seem to help. Last… read more

Wondering if anyone else is a long term user of imitrex/sumatriptan & have retinal vein occlusion?

Wondering if anyone else is a long term user of imitrex/sumatriptan & have retinal vein occlusion?

I guess most of us have our share of worrying about side effects of the migraine meds we take but some of those side effects are more serious than others. I've kind of come to terms that I'm somewhat spacey, forgetful and "lose" my words for example. It's a trade off for a reduction in pain and frequency of migraines. But earlier this year I was diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion (blood clot in the eye)… read more

What abortive treatments do you take? What other treatments have you tried that gets rid of the migraine?

What abortive treatments do you take? What other treatments have you tried that gets rid of the migraine?

I take sumatriptan injections and relpax. The last couple weeks have been horrible and I’m running through them like crazy. I know about rebound headaches but if I want to be functional I need to take something. My parents are wanting me to see a chiropractor but when I’ve been in the past, it’s made them worse.

Does anyone have to take Imetrex on a daily basis?

Does anyone have to take Imetrex on a daily basis?

I am to the point that I am having to take Imetrex daily just to function. I have tried to go without it but the most I can go is three days before I have to finally give in and take it. I am concerned as to what it may be doing to my heart. I take the "Reddy" brand through CVS which does not seem to work as well as the name brand. Also, each time I take an Imetrex I have to chase it with two Tylenol or Advil.
