Does Anyone Find Themselves Afraid To Go Outside?
A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Anxiety is the worst for me. As many of you have said I avoid making plans or find myself always having to cancel. I have chronic daily migraines and have had little to no good relief for the past five years. I have a great specialist at Baylor but my body is very resistant to meds which makes mine a complicated case. In the past, I've found myself being very agoraphobic, afraid to go outside. I was scared and still am quite often of what might happen if my pain spikes while I'm out. Home just… read more

I don't think you are being a cry baby. You have a problem and are looking for a solution, you may be crying sometimes but that is because you are sick.
Maybe you need to create a goal of something you would like to do outside the house say once or twice a week for a short time. And then go home and celebrate your accomplishment.
I started walking and talking pictures. Then I would come home and make a highlights movie of the walk. Now I walk for over an hour on a good day. Bad days 10-15 minutes but I still win.
Really bad day I stay home, and that is okay. Tomorrow is another day.

Another thought for those of you that shop online, Amazon Smile donates a portion of each sale to the charity that you choose. There are a few migraine charites that you can choose. The prices are the same and if you are a prime member you still get your benefits. So we can help ourselves while shopping from home!

I too have severe daily chronic migraines and only Topamax 400mg works to keep me at a LEVEL 4/5...
I don't have a choice but to leave the house, I have to work being a single mom to 2 boys and very involved in their schools... It's pianful, but I've learned to suck it up and deal in order to be their for them... If it's something that's not 100% necessary, we don't go and my 16 year old will help take care of the 5 year old.
I'm SO lucky to a great teenager!!!

@A MyMigraineTeam Member - I suffer from osmophobia, as well. It does affect decision making! I hate to go to my vet's office because it smells like a brothel. I'd hate to choose another, but I may have to. Loud noise sucks too. We are extremely careful not to go to sports bars during any games, or to loud restaurants. I am not above asking for music to be turned down and have moved (too late, of course) because a woman smelled like she had dumped a bottle of perfume on herself. Other people had complained, as well. I only shop online, other than Target and the grocery store, and then I avoid the cleaning products and candle aisles. Between the smells and the music, when I need a haircut, I just assume I will have a migraine that day.

I think I get what you are talking about. Sometimes my osmophobia gets really bad. If I smell the wrong thing it is like someone hit me in the head with a bat. I don't even want to walk to my car thinking 'what if the neighbors and doing laundry and the dryer is venting near my car?'
I don't think that the answer is to be a total shut in. That isn't healthy.
Do you have a pain management counsler? Mine has helped me with that stuff. Although the lobby smells 😷
