Some of my headaches are caused from anxiety. Klonopin helps those.

Edit:
Make sure to take it as directed and don’t stop suddenly as withdrawal headaches are brutal.

Many headaches are treated with off-label medicines by the larger headache centers; i.e., heart medicines, anti-seizure meds, anti-depressants.

I just looked up Klonopin it’s a benzodiazepine, along the lines of Xanax. I found this article on National Library of Medicine site https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27893291/. Word of caution, the part published is the high level summary, your doctor should be able to find the full abstract. I found one for tinnitus that had me concerned, my doc found the full thing and said it was very specific conditions that I don’t encounter.

I’ve been on all sorts of meds since 2016, I think they tried benzodiazepine - didn’t work at all. My best experience is the new stuff anti-CGRP (Emgality, Aimovig, Ajovy) and gepants (Nurtec). Get your doc to try anti-CGRP as preventative and Nurtec along with a triptan (Maxalt, etc) for rescue. Your mileage may vary, the anti-CGRP meds, the work similar but different, for me Aimovig worked (drastic relief) but when I switched to Emgality big difference. Add Botox every 12-13 weeks - you’ll get home run. If you have commercial insurance - there are coupons to bring the copay to $0.

Rescue, I was always on Maxalt, but that gives me brain fog and I get the chills. When combined with Nurtec - miracle. It takes 2-3 hours before I get relief and after 4-6 hours completely gone. My doctor is one of the top headache docs in my area, she said it’s perfectly fine to take both because they act differently. She is learning the new stuff right along with her patients. She prescribes the newest stuff to her trouble patients (like me) and solicits their feedback; she trusts the journals but really appreciates real life feedback.

I hope this helps. Bottom line there is no need for any us migraineurs to suffer with the constantly changing med scene. I used to be miserable more than half the month, now if get 3-4 a month, I’m good. PS. Sometimes you have to really “think about” how many migraine days you actually have. Treatments/meds are covered based on what they are approved for: chronic vs episodic migraine.

I have Klonopin and I have taken it when I had a headache before. It just relaxes me so the headache doesn't hurt so much.
