Migraines don’t just affect the body—they take an emotional toll too.
The stress, the mood dips, the frustration of having to push through—it all adds up.
What helps you get through the hard days?

I think that once we learn to “Not” push through the pain but listen to our bodies right when the tightness of the muscles in and around the neck and head hits taking care of what is needed will help to stop the migraines in their tracks which in turn will help us get “Over the migraines emotional overload” and stop the over use of medications. It is important so realize that when we can stop a migraine in its tracks will help any medication to work like it should. We need to give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves and not over extend taking care of everything else for everyone else. We’ll never heal that way. The emotional toll it takes on our bodies is horrible to say the least, however it is in the “Knowledge” of taking care of ourselves is essential because no one else will do that for us. Life style changes, changing pillows, or a mattress pad on the bed to make it easier to rest without over extending our backs etc…just to name a few things. When we have the right support all around we are all better for it.

I tend not to do much, stay quiet in a dim room on migraine recovery days. Beginning with morning coffee then will move onto a large mug of water for the rest of the day.

I do think laughter is the best medicine for me. I have so many memories of watching funny shows and even creating and telling funny stories and jokes to my daughter. She reminds me of ones I have forgotten. If I don’t laugh each day I can’t deal with the pain or life. I love it when I wake up migraine free and go to bed migraine free and can enjoy the little things in life. Pain has taught me to be grateful for the blessings and be in the moment. There are a lot of different reasons that can make a day perfect, but my perfect day is a migraine free day and getting to spend time with my pets and daughter and just being present in the moment and being grateful for my loved ones.
