Members deeply empathized with the question about severe head pressure during migraines that worsens when lying down, with many sharing they also cannot lie flat during attacks and must sit upright to find any relief. Several members strongly encouraged pursuing diagnostic imaging like MRIs and CT scans, sharing personal stories where migraines turned out to be linked to conditions such as gastroparesis, shingles, Chiari malformation, sinus issues, or spinal pressure, emphasizing the importance of ruling out underlying causes through thorough testing. A recurring theme was the value of keeping a migraine journal to track patterns, trusting your instincts about your own body, advocating persistently with doctors when symptoms feel abnormal, and seeking specialist referrals when general practitioners reach the limits of what they can authorize or diagnose.

Hopefully your GP knows what he's doing. A specialists is a second opinion. My family dr. is pretty up on things but he only can do so much. Try your GP and if he doesn't figure anything out then go to a neurologist. Try to stay positive. They'll get it right.

Sometimes it's easier to get scans authorized if you get a specialist to request them

I will echo the advice to see a neurologist and if you can get at least for MRI. There are so many other conditions that cause migraines or coexist them possibly making them worse. I have gastropresis. The more my gastropresis got worse the worse my migraines got and they increased in the amount of migraines I got

One of my friend's mom had severe migraines with jaw pain. Eventually my friend got her mom to go to the doctor. She had shingles that was causing sores under the skin in her mouth.

My brother had migraines and couldn't lay down with them. He had other symptoms but the migraines were a big part of his health. Eventually they did Arnold Chuari and the pressure in his spinal column was way to high.

Migraines are joke. From having migraines with no reason to migraines that are caused by something else.

I'm not a doctor but I keep a migraine journal and write in what I are, place in my cycle, stress etc. I've found some definite patterns emerge and its helped my doctor treat me appropriately. He has me do a MRI every 5 years and my migraines change. We watch to see if their are any changes in my brain. I figure I'd rather go overboard with tests every few years and find nothing than not doing tests had miss something that's serious

That's probably way more advice than you wanted but I always want my fellow migraine suffers to have as much knowledge as they can.

Brenda Barber, good luck with the test. Try not to worry, they just need to be thorough but I would have thought if it were anything serious then you would have been experiencing other symptoms, especially as you've been suffering for years. Funnily enough I was on chat GPT yesterday and it was suggesting that narrowed structures in sinuses, etc can cause a lot of the symptoms we experience so it put my mind at rest a bit. MY GP is going to see what the CT shows and then hopefully refer me to ENT. Take care x
