Members responded to a question about getting a referral to a neurologist for worsening migraines, with the general advice being that a referral from a primary care doctor is usually needed and depends on your insurance. Several members shared personal experiences, including one who discovered a small bleed through an MRI after daily migraines with blackouts, and another who found relief through a migraine specialist and the medication Nurtec after trying other options first. A recurring theme was the value of seeking a neurologist who specializes in migraines, along with tips like watching sodium intake and advocating for yourself if a doctor does not seem attentive to your needs.

Diamond,I've had several MRI's brain over the years. They all were normal. ...but since November 2025,I have had daily Migraines lasting 12+ hours with black outs..Saw a neurologist ,who sent me for MRI which revealed a small bleed/stroke..So, YES,,,

Just watch and follow MD instructions.Interesting enough is that I was totally unaware. The neurologist increased my atorvastatin from 10 to 40 to mg as cholesterol can put plaque on our arteries.increasing blood pressure and chance for stroke .
I had a BP of 110/70 until Nov 2025 then it jumped to 150/110.
Now on a small dose BP RX and 85mg of aspirin daily
BTW,I am a RN,.not overweight at 116 and 5'7. Vegetarian.

It’s probably the process but it depends on your insurance.

Most welcome.
Watch your salt intake. That can drive your blood pressure up putting you at risk for strokes.
Many foods ,soups, chips, lunch meats, BBQ sauces just to mention a few.
Good to read labels.
We really need to keep our diet around 2000 mg of sodium /2Gm a day.
Hope this helps..May help your headaches too !

You know what I've noticed that the past three times I went to doctor visit. My blood pressure went up too. I taught it was strange. It was still considered normal range. But for 25 yrs its always been the same. Im 46yrs old now.
Thanks for your information. I appreciate it.
