💬 How do you cope emotionally during migraine attacks?
I'm fine emotionally as long as people aren't trying to tell me how to go about treating my migraines.
The worst for me is waking up with a terrible migraine. I take my Qulipta and if it hasn’t kicked in my mid-morning or mid-day I take a sumatriptan (50 mg) with a few ibuprofen. Usually that kicks it down to manageable, but unpleasant. Emotionally, when nothing is working that day, I get pretty depressed and sometimes cross over into feeling hopeless, especially when I have additional pain from fibromyalgia, etc. I mostly have been letting myself just feel that hopelessness until it goes away. It’s scary being on that side of depressed, but I know I’m not going to act on the negative feelings in a destructive way, and I know it will pass. I need dim lights, quiet, and maybe watch stuff I’ve recorded on my dvr, but with the sound way down. It distracts me enough until the pain subsides. I know the Qulipta will start working again within a few days, as it always does, so I try to remain hopeful and think about pain-free days.
I personally get depressed as soon as a migraine comes on and I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck I’m so tired. I give myself some grace and remember that this too shall pass. I usually just rest and I’ll chat with a friend or listen to nature music. Hang in there. 🤗
I go to my recliner in my bedroom where it’s quiet when I have a migraine. I put ice on my neck and take my eletriptan. I also start drinking lots of water. That always helps but sometimes I just have to wait it out.
I have a fewclose friends that will support me when I am feeling like death is right around the corner. When in the middle of a spell, I hold my skin tight since the world is spinning and as it lifts, I feel lots of body pain.
