I'm a bit nervous but taking everything step by step following the directions. I've already spoken to someone that has given me a lot of help on using Emgality as it is quite different than the monthly injection Ajovy.

I'm still reading through the instructions and following them to ensure everything is being done correctly. What I did this morning is take out the two injector needles let them both sit in the boxes for an hour
I will now take one injection from it's box place it in a safe area… read more

Members shared their experiences starting Emgality for migraines, with many offering encouragement and practical tips to someone nervous about their first dose. Several members noted that Emgality was easy to use, caused little to no sting, and worked well with few or no side effects, with some finding it more effective than Ajovy. A recurring theme was the importance of following instructions carefully, staying positive, and working closely with a specialist to find the right schedule and combination of treatments.

I actually took both injections out of the refrigerator sat the boxes neatly on my end table then waited for an hour; I used my timer to remind me. Then after the hour timer sounded, I opened one box removed everything (medication injector and instructions) sat the medication beside me on the couch with a cotton ball, an alcohol pad and a band-aid just in case then set the timer again for 45 minutes to get Emgality at a warm temperature.
I waited for the 45 minutes to bring the Emgality to room temperature then when the timer made a tone I followed through as I have done with Ajovy using the alcohol pad and cotton ball then began reading the instructions for usage of the Emgality medication to ensure I use it correctly.

I am quite impressed on how easy it is to use and how quickly the medication works. I did not feel any major sting when the medication entered my leg. I did have a band-aid as since low-dose aspirin is taken daily for my heart there are times when a small drop of of blood will appear, so I've gotten accustom to seeing it appear. I just use the cotton ball, clean it up then place the cotton ball into the McKesson sharps container as it will be going to a safe place to be taken care of. I learned from one off my specialists who works with needles the best way to manage so have been following their guidance.

Good morning. I was using Aimvog and due to insurnace I was switched to Emgagilty and I really did not notice much of a difference. I have now been taking emgagilty for years and it works for me but on a 21 day scheudle not the once a month. I still have break through migraines with vertigo but I find I manage much better and the break through spells seem to happen when I stop taking care of my whole self; diet, sleep and stress. It will work, just need to find what cycle works for you.

@A MyMigraineTeam Member this is a replacement of Ajovy as I began to have severe migraines take the past few months. I will be keeping notes a bit more as we are hoping this medication will take over and start fixing issues.

How long did it take for Emgality to start working for you?

It sounds like you're doing a great job preparing for your first Emgality injections! Being thorough with the instructions and having all your supplies ready shows you're taking this seriously.

It's completely normal to feel nervous when starting a new preventive treatment. Many people experience a mix of anxiety and hope when beginning something that could potentially help reduce their migraine frequency.

Regarding timing:

Emgality is a preventive medication, so it works differently than acute treatments. It may take some time to notice results, as it's designed to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks over time rather than stop an active migraine.

Some people notice improvements within the first few weeks, while others may need a few months to see the full benefit. Everyone's response is different, so try to be patient with the process.

Your preparation sounds excellent:

- Letting the injections warm to room temperature
- Having proper disposal containers ready
- Following instructions carefully
- Alternating injection sites

Best of luck with your first dose today! Many members find that once they get through the first injection, subsequent ones become much easier.
